An Mississippi OB-GYN whose medical license was temporarily suspended after a disturbing slew of sexual misconduct allegations against him, including fathering children with his patients, denies acting inappropriately and says that one of his alleged victims is now his wife.

Dr. Walter Ray Wolfe had his license suspended by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure on Wednesday without a hearing. The board ruled that allowing Wolfe to continue practicing “would constitute an immediate danger to the public.” The next morning, Wolfe filed for a temporary restraining order and injunctive relief against the board. Wolfe maintains that his actions towards one of his patients was, in fact, not inappropriate because he had been engaged to the woman at the time.

Wolfe was specifically accused of sexual assault and misconduct by several patients. The board believed he has fathered two children with patients and had additionally attempted to non-consensually induce an abortion for one patient.

The board's executive director, Dr. Kenneth Cleveland, paid Wolfe a surprise visit on Wednesday.

“We only investigate a situation when a complaint is filed,” Cleveland told WLBT of Jackson, Mississippi. “If information develops during that investigation where action needs to be taken, then we’ll determine what the appropriate action is."

The board became aware of issues with Wolfe's practice when a health care practitioner in the area notified them of potential issues in November. That same month, Wolfe was spotted by a physician assistant student kissing a pregnant patient. It was later discovered that that patient's child had been fathered by Wolfe and had been born in Wolfe's home.

Wolfe's motion states that he was engaged to the patient at the time he was seen kissing her. This woman is now married to Wolfe.

Another accusation stems from a complaint made against Wolfe by another patient's ex-husband, who in a lawsuit said that Wolfe had an affair with the patient. The complaint from the board states that during sex, Wolfe tried to non-consensually insert Misoprostol (Cytotec) tablets into the patient’s vagina in an attempt to induce an abortion. The attempt was unsuccessful and the patient gave birth to the child in 2016.

Another patient said that in 2019, Wolfe had made inappropriate comments toward her following an examination.

A fellow OB-GYN appointed by the board reviewed the complaints made against Wolfe and deemed him a threat to future potential patients and the citizens of Mississippi.

Wolfe had opened the Magnolia Woman's Clinic in Canton, Mississippi in 1989, according to The Clarion Ledger of Jackson, Mississippi. He has been practicing medicine as an obstetrician-gynecologist since 1985. He is one of only two OB-GYNs practicing in the Canton area.

A hearing has been scheduled for July 24.
